				We had an amazing time fly fishing! We were first time fly fishers and Luke did an excellent job as our guide! He was thorough and patient as he helped us learn. The wind was tough, especially for newbies, and although I didn’t catch a fish (my friend did catch several),  the overall experience was fun and memorable! Would definitely recommend using Kirk’s for your fly fishing adventure!  Thanks for an awesome time!

				What an amazing day!  We had Andy as our guide, who was fantastic.  Andy knew the area and was quick to switch out flies if the fish weren't hitting to something else, that typically would get a bite or two.  We had a blast and Andy facilitated a great trip for my dad's 70th birthday. I will certainly go through Kirks Flyshop again for another trip.

				I booked a fly fishing trip for my husband, sons, and grandson.   They went with Stephen and Andrew, and came home with so many great things to say about the two of them. They caught plenty of fish (some big ones!) and enjoyed the time on the water together.  They will definitely do another outing in the future!

				We had such a great time on our guided tour with Lucas and Robbie! We had 5 people in our group so we booked a two person and three person guided trip, but we were all able to go together for a 4 hour tour.  We fished in Rocky Mountain National park. The waders, boots, poles, and all the gear were in great condition and we stayed dry! It was a wonderful experience and we look forward to coming back for another trip!

				My mom and I had an amazing day fishing with Stephen! Stephen was very kind, knowledgeable, and patient and took us to a great spot on the river for our 8-hour trip. We really enjoyed talking to him and caught tons of beautiful Rainbows and Browns thanks to his expertise. Highly recommend him as a guide and we hope to be back soon!

				I had the best experience hiking with my guide John in Rocky Mountain National Park. I had a couple of days alone in CO before meeting up with a friend and this experience was just what I was looking for. John was so fun, knowledgeable and I felt safe in the mountains! It was a great experience exploring this beautiful part of CO. Highly recommend and would love to try fly fishing next time.

Lower Big Thompson River

The lower Big Thompson River is a world class trout stream situated downstream from Lake Estes and provides a blue ribbon tailwater fishery where wild brown and rainbow trout grow large with common catches between 12-16" while fish over 20" commonly hit the net.

The Big Thompson River below Lake Estes is nearly a year-round fishery providing cold water in the dog days of summer to consistent temperatures near the dam during the doldrums of mid-winter. Exceptional fishing can be experienced any day of the year depending on conditions.

Rocky Mountain National Park

During the late spring through fall, we spend most of our time fly fishing in Rocky Mountain National Park. The pristine trout habitat in the park supports abundant populations of multiple species and is perfect for those anglers who want to fish beneath towering mountain peaks with stunning views in every direction.

Depending on the departure time of your fly fishing trip, please show up at least 15 minutes before at our Estes Park shop.

We are located at 230 E. Elkhorn Ave. in downtown Estes Park, right across from city hall and just down from the Dairy Queen.

If coming from the Denver/Boulder direction, take HWY 36 to Estes Park and take a left at the second light (E. Elkhorn Avenue). We are a couple of blocks down on the left.

If coming from Ft. Collins/Loveland direction take HWY 34 straight into town. This will turn into E. Elkhorn Ave, and we will be a couple of blocks down on the left.

Park in the parking lot located just off of the Dairy Queen and walk a couple shops back down to Kirks Fly Shop & Mountain Adventures.

Do you have to have fly fishing experience to go on a guided trip?

Nope! We take anglers of varying skill levels, physical fitness, and all ages on our Estes Park guided fly fishing trips. If you haven't fly fished before, we will match you with an instructor who will show you the way.

And if you want to ease into fly fishing, we highly recommend booking an intro to fly fishing class prior to your guided trip. This way, you can learn fly fishing basics allowing you make the most of your day on the water with your guide.

The best time to fly fish Estes Park is whenever you can visit! Each season brings a different charm from the solitude of winter fishing on the lower Big Thompson River to high summer dry fly fishing in Rocky Mountain National Park.

For dry fly anglers, come in spring through fall. For those who want to get into Rocky Mountain National Park to fish, summer and fall. For those who want solitude and a chance to catch extra-large trout, winter can be exceptionally good.

Can I do an overnight trip in Rocky Mountain National Park?

Of course! To do overnight fly fishing trips in Rocky Mountain National Park, we often carry backpacking gear or bring a few pack llamas to help carry the camping gear.

*Please note that backcountry camping permits in RMNP need to be reserved in advance, so try to give us as much lead time as possible. It is possible to reserve campsites with short notice, but it becomes more difficult to reserve the right campsites during high season.
